Reading: Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre, Chapters 1-9 (p. 1-77 in the Norton Critical Edition). I have added a scanned version of this reading to Canvas, just in case your book has not arrived at this time.
Alternatively, here is an online version of the novel from the library (requires signing in). However, the page numbers will not match the version I have listed in the syllabus.
While reading, think about the following questions:
- How does the narrative progress? In what way do you receive information as a reader? What is unique about how it is written?
- How is Jane as a narrator? What opinion(s) of her have you formed, and why?
- What opinions have you formed about other characters? How does Jane’s narration contribute to your construction of this opinion?
Reminder: Post the link to your website to the assignment form in Canvas by Wednesday, January 26. You do not need to have any content on your site yet, but it does need to be working.
